All work and no play makes Rotary Dull Organisation !!!! Rotarians do enjoy a wide range of sporting activities. Competitive or Friendly Here we have a Record for the Rotary year 2008-09
East Kilbride Rotary Club have two internal golf competitions. These are played for on an annual basis. The James Taylor Salver was presented to the Club in 1965 by the Rotarian James Taylor who was the professional golfer at East Kilbride Golf Course.  The Rhu Trophy was gifted to the Club Rotarian John Seargent who was a solicitor in the town.
Monday 15th Sept seen East Kilbride playing Golf at Bothwell in miserable weather conditions although not winning they did manage to procure a bottle of whisky via the good play of Jim Moretti at the 8th hole.Fellowship on the day was good and the Willie Stoot trophy was won by Paisley Rotary Club
See picture at the top of screen.
Team members were Archie King, George McGraw, Jim Moretti and Liam Donnelly
Tom Dickson Trophy
An outstanding 40 Stableford points secured victory for EK Rotarian golfers Jim Moretti and Archie King in the Tom Dickson Trophy on Tuesday 14th October at a pleasantly rain free but still rather wet Strathaven Golf Club. Beating a team from the Rotary Club of Bothwell and Uddinsgton into runners up  position, they have now secured the honour of organising next year’s event which they were certain should fall into the capable hands of our Sports Officer Jim Anderson.

Other entries from the Rotary Clubs of Hamilton, Blantyre, Bothwell and Uddingston with two teams and, our hosts for the day Strathaven with two teams as well as David Brown and substitute Jim Fagen for Liam Donnelly  making up a somewhat lower scoring second East Kilbride Rotary Club team. We all enjoyed a great day out and an enjoyable evening at Strathaven Rotary Club meeting afterwards.

A note of thanks is due to Strathaven Rotary club and especially their immediate past president Nigel Thomson for organising such an enjoyable day.

EKRC's First?
Mixed ten pin bowling night. Very limited numbers unfortunately, but nonetheless a first and a good evening. Group picture taken by Raymond Lyon of Kittoch Rotary Club, who happened to be there
John Cardno elected to take the ladies under his wing in his team (John's Jays) but they lost the team match to Jim's Jokers.( Jim Anderson that is)
The Ladies individual prize (based on the second game) was won by Susan Cardno after Denise Wood failed to live up to the promise of her opening game, and yours truly won the Gent's prize, narrowly from John.
Not surprisingly, Barry bowled the fastest ball at 17.8mph and won a free drink because he left the "pink" pin standing all by itself.
Report from George McGraw 25th Oct.2008

The "Wee" Grand Match

Eleven teams competed at Table Top Curling for the Let Us Shine Trophy at the
Stewartfield Farm and raised  £150 for the Let Us Shine charity.Starting with
a two league format four teams won through to the semi finals where the league
winners lined up against the runners up from the other league. This pitted John
Cardno and David Brown from East Kilbride Club, surprise winners of Division A,
against Raymond Lyon and John Strang from Kittoch Club.
However the experience of octogenarian curler, John Strang was too much for the
relative novices from East Kilbride and Kittoch ran out 7 - 1 winners.
The second semi final involved the second Kittoch team of Brian Adams and Ron
James who took on the winners of Division B, David Paul and George Alston of
Rutherglen Club. On this occasion the Kittoch representatives were unsuccessful,
going down 4 - 1.
The Final proved a much closer affair but despite getting both teams through to the semi finals Kittoch were ultimately unsuccessful against the experienced Rutherglen pairing, who won 4 - 3.
The Trophy, a hand carved Ghanaian statue, donated by Let Us Shine founder, Fiona Marra,  was presented by her to worthy winners David Paul and George Alslton at the end of the evening, together with deluxe whisky - the "spirit" of curling.
Rutherglen Club made it a double when President Bill McIntosh won the putting competition with a remarkable 100% score, and was presented with a bottle of wine by Fiona.
Thanks to Rutherglen, Kittoch, Glasgow and Bothwell & Uddingston Clubs who supported East Kilbride members and their friends. Good fellowship, a free pie and pint were enjoyed by all, and as a result it is intended to make this an annual event.

The Club have been active in various fronts recently.
Fristly, Jack Blackwood held an informal pigeon shoot for club members in preperation for the clubs major event in the spring of next year.
Next Jim Moretti, George McGraw, Jim Anderson and Jack Blackwood were one of twenty eight teams who gave their support to the Rotary appeal for the elimination of polio world wide that had been organised by a group of Scottish Rotary Curlers who had toured Canada recentely.
President Ray Porrelli, Past Presidents John McCafferty, John Cardo Jim Anderson and Secretary George McGraw plus Moira Porrelli, Susan Cardno Myra Anderson and Frances McGraw who formed a seperate team attended East Kilbride Kkittoch's Quiz night where the teams finished second and third respectfully ladies being one point behind the male team from East Kilbride
